New Beast in the Hizouse

   Posted by: Marcellus   in Uncategorized

For those of you who are also geeks, you know how proud we can be when it comes to our computers as far as their style and power.  I had been talking smack about building a new machine for a while and now I finally have that out of the way.  It's also helped me deal with the death of dad that has happened recently as well (I'll update you guys on that soon enough, but not right now).

Well, here are the pictures of the new pc.  I'll show off the desk and dual monitor setup as soon as I have all of these boxes and manuals cleared out of this room and get some more decent pics of the layout afterwards.   Oh, and since you're thinking it, yea, I'm bragging.

Woot! Toys have arrived.  It's time to build.  Usually, I'm not too enthusiastic and tedious work, but when you're building your own system, that really gets you going.  I typically only do this for myself once every 2 or 3 years.

My new keyboard.  A bit costly, but definitely pimp!  This thing was thinner than I had imagined.

Empty case.  She shall be filled with electronic goodness soon enough.

Okay!!! Time to get this processor put together.  I would have taken close up shots of the processor, etc…, but without a good macro lens, I didnt' think it would be worth it.  But anyway, at this point, the system is built and I'm just tweaking out the lighting and installing the operating system.

Man, look at the size of this heatsink.  Expensive, but serves it's purpose well.  Even overclocked, the processor has never managed to reach 40 degree's celsius. Woot!

Cable management and wire sleeving will defininately take the most of your time when building a new pc.  Especially when it comes to cases that have a window.  Can't show off your work if the inside of your pc looks like a gathering of the nappy headed hoe convention.  (yea, bad joke)

C closeer look at some of the UV reactive wire sleeving and ata serial drive cables.

Two more view of the inside of the case

Of course, the outside of the case has to look good as well.  Here's a decent view of the backside.  I'm too lazy to take pictures of it in the dark right now, but these ports in the back light up so that you connect your accessories in the dark.

And yea, my baby has a cute face as well.  And yes, that cd drive in the front of the case works.  Very well I might add.  Plus, it's a burner.

But just in case, we have to have a second burner as well.  Not to mention an adapter for the compact flash and secure digital card crap.

A closer look at the cd drive in the front.

I'll have to take another picture once I get this desk area cleaned up some more.

And now, for the in the dark shots.  To hell with trying to caption each one.

Encounters with the Idiot Savants

   Posted by: Marcellus   in Uncategorized

An autistic savant (historically described as idiot savant) is a person with both autism and Savant Syndrome. Savant Syndrome describes a person having both a severe developmental or mental handicap and extraordinary mental abilities not found in most people. The Savant Syndrome skills involve striking feats of memory and often include arithmetic calculation and sometimes unusual abilities in art or music.

Normally, I wouldn't have a problem with idiot savants, but I have found out something quite astonishing.  They have infiltrated the ranks of management in corporate America as well as becoming frequent users of computers.  Well, why would that bother me?  Well, it's pretty obvious of why people would have a problem with idiot savants in management, but when when it comes to computers, it hits an all new level.

These idiot savants are known to screw things up on a level that has been previously uknown.  Unfortunately, these are also the same people that call I.T. helpdesks with their absolutely astounding accomplishments.  They are able to achieve digital destruction on a level unreachable by the best of hackers.  They HAVE to be intelligent in a special way in order to do the destruction that they do.

Throughout my customer service/Developer/tech support work history, I have encountered quite a few of these individuals.  From the ones who managed to get their genetalia stuck in the CD-Rom drive, to the people who who do dirty shutdowns on machines with a running sql database, therefore corrupting data and even causing data loss.

When I finally achieve the position of world dictator, I will destroy any of these idiot savants who have employed themselves in management or have become end users of computers.  So, some of you management types back and Jack Henry and associates better watch out haha.

Another Example of the power of the subconcious

Saw this video on Youtube and thought it was absolutely amazing.  It's a bit long by youtube standards, but definitely worth the watch.   Pretty scary actually, but it's interesting to see the tables turned on the advertisers.
